.KEY MESSAGES...

through this evening. Most places will remain dry.

- Surface high pressure will keep temperatures warm and limit
meaningful rain chances (20% or less each afternoon) this
  next week.

.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Monday)
Issued at 201 PM EDT Sun Sep 13 2026

Lingering LL moisture and an exiting midlevel trough axis has
prompted in isolated showers and thunderstorms developing south and
east of Macon this afternoon. Elsewhere, fair weather cumulus and
warm temperatures prevail. Most places remain dry today with high
temperatures in the low to mid 90s and upper 70s/low 80s at the
higher elevations. Still pretty humid out there, heat indices in
the 90s to low 100s, so make sure to stay hydrated and take
frequent breaks inside. Skies clear out tonight and temperatures
fall into the upper 60s to low 70s by Monday morning.

Midlevel ridging will continue to slide into the region on Monday
and a backdoor cold front will enter the area turning winds to the
N/NE at the surface. A low chance for an isolated shower or storm at
the higher elevations in association with the front but most will
remain dry. The front will provide little if any relief from the
heat as temperatures will once again rise back into the 90s and heat
indices in the 90s to low 100s by the afternoon.

.LONG TERM...
(Tuesday morning through next Saturday)
Issued at 201 PM EDT Sun Sep 13 2026

The extended period begins Tue with an upper ridge centered over the
GA/TN/NC borders along with a surface ridge/wedge nosing down the
eastern seaboard from the New England states. By Tue morning the
wedge will be firmly entrenched into North and Central GA with Eats
to SE winds in the 8-12mph range. We will still have decent moisture
across the area Tues as the drier airmass does not really start to
move in until Wed. With the ridge/wedge building in we could still
see a shower or two mainly across east central GA but not expecting
much. As that drier air filters into the region Wed we will see
Dewpoints drop into the low to middle 60s and continuing across the
state through the end of the week. High temps stay in the upper 80s
to lower 90s through the end of the week but with the drier air
moving in Heat Index values will drop from the upper 902 to lower
100s Tue to the lower 90s Wed to Fri.

Models show moisture beginning to return Fri evening into Sat as the
ridge finally begins to break down. The continued east to
southeasterly flow brings atlantic moisture in across the state as
we get into the weekend. Right now just going with a 20% to 30%
chance of showers and thunderstorms Sat/Sun.

Watch

A watch is issued when the risk of a hazardous weather or hydrologic event has increased significantly, but its occurrence, location or timing is still uncertain. A watch means that hazardous weather is possible. People should have a plan of action in case a storm threatens and they should listen for later information and possible warnings especially when planning travel or outdoor activities.

Advisory

An advisory is issued when a hazardous weather or hydrologic event is occurring, imminent or likely. Advisories are for less serious conditions than warnings, that cause significant inconvenience and if caution is not exercised, could lead to situations that may threaten life or property.

Outlook
